In February, Spotify introduced the Car Thing, a gadget for cars to sync with a user’s Spotify app and control music easily. Despite the initial anticipation, the device will no longer be produced after just five months on the market.
During Spotify’s recent quarterly earnings announcement, they disclosed that they are discontinuing the production of Car Thing units. While the device is still available for purchase on Spotify’s website at a reduced price, it will likely be removed once the existing stock runs out.

According to a Spotify spokesperson speaking to TechCrunch, the aim of creating the Car Thing was to improve the understanding of in-car music listening and make audio more accessible in different vehicles. Due to various factors like demand and supply chain challenges, Spotify has opted to discontinue the production of Car Thing units. However, existing devices will continue to function properly. The project has provided valuable insights, and Spotify remains committed to the automotive space as a significant audio platform.
