As one of the biggest retail chains in the US, Walmart is known for offering a wide range of products at affordable prices. However, it goes without saying that the items for sale do not include real human beings. Yet, a recent incident at a Walmart in Texas took a bizarre turn when a woman tried to buy a child from his mother.
An unnamed woman was shopping at the store with her son when another woman, identified as 49-year-old Rebecca Lanette Taylor, approached them at the self-checkout. Taylor commented on the child’s appearance and then shockingly asked the mother how much she would sell him for. Initially thinking it was a joke, the mother laughed it off, but Taylor persisted, claiming she had $250,000 in her car to pay for the child.
Despite the mother’s refusal and attempt to leave, Taylor continued to follow them, escalating the situation by offering $500,000 for the child, insisting that she wanted to take him. The mother sought safety by locking herself and her son inside their car until Taylor left, then promptly contacted the authorities. A warrant was issued for Taylor’s arrest, leading to her apprehension shortly after the incident.
Taylor now faces charges of attempted purchase of a child, a third-degree felony, and is currently in custody at Houston County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
