With a rise in COVID-19 cases across the United States, national safety protocols are being reinstated to safeguard public health. The Biden Administration has launched a home testing campaign to provide free COVID test kits. The United States Postal Service (USPS) has already delivered test kits twice, and now is delivering them for the third time, possibly the final round.
Similar to previous rounds, individuals can visit the home testing website and enter their name and address to receive a set of free home COVID test kits via mail. This time, each request will result in the delivery of eight test kits, divided into two shipments. When combined with the previous kits, each person will receive a total of 16 test kits.
The funding for these free tests initially came from last year’s stimulus package, which is nearly depleted. To continue with additional testing and vaccine initiatives, the Biden Administration is seeking an extra $22.5 billion in funding. Without this additional funding, there might not be more free tests in the future.

The White House states in a fact sheet, “Due to Congress’s failure to provide additional funding for the nation’s COVID-19 response, the Administration cannot continue making the types of federal investments needed to sustain domestic testing manufacturing capacity, and this may jeopardize the federal government’s ability to provide free tests moving forward.”
