For many centuries, these three restaurants have catered to cowboys, presidents, and various celebrities. Throughout the years, they have withstood wars, economic changes, and experienced both highs and lows. Now, let’s dig in and enjoy a meal with a side of history!
The Red Fox Inn & Tavern (established in 1728)
Some things in life require patience. Boiling a perfect egg takes about 15 minutes. Completing a college degree takes four years. Becoming a grandparent can take as long as 60 or 70 years. But time seems to mean nothing to the Red Fox Inn & Tavern.
Established in 1728, this establishment has been serving delicious dishes to satisfied customers for nearly three centuries. With such a long history, it is no surprise that the inn has hosted a diverse range of patrons. While we won’t name-drop, we could mention famous guests like Tom Cruise and John F. Kennedy.
The Old South Mountain Inn (established in 1732)
1732 marked the birth of noteworthy events. George Washington was born that year. Another significant event was the establishment of the Old South Mountain Inn. This charming inn in Maryland is steeped in history, having provided hospitality during wars, revolutions, and economic turmoil.
Legend has it that the inn’s hospitality was sought by John Brown during his efforts to end slavery. If you want to experience this historical inn’s charm firsthand, make sure to visit. And don’t leave without trying their famous crab cakes!
The Griswold Inn (established in 1776)
Two significant events unfolded in 1776: the United States declared its independence, and the Griswold Inn was founded in Connecticut. It’s no surprise that this makes the Griswold Inn Connecticut’s oldest bar.
Besides enjoying a delicious meal and comfortable accommodation, it is highly recommended to explore the building and its rooms to immerse yourself in history. For those unable to visit, you can catch a glimpse of the inn as a filming location for the TV show “Dark Shadows”.
