The US Government Gives the Green Light for a Honeybee Vaccine
The vaccine aims to safeguard honeybee populations from American Foulbrood disease.
Due to various threats impacting global honeybee populations, scientists and farmers worldwide have been striving to find ways to defend and maintain the bees to prevent a potential ecological crisis. One critical threat to bees is American Foulbrood disease, a bacterial infection that targets and harms bee larvae. Dalan Animal Health, a biotech company, has come up with a solution to address this issue.

The US Department of Agriculture has conditionally approved Dalan to produce and distribute a vaccine they have developed for Foulbrood disease. The vaccine contains small amounts of the harmful bacteria, which is combined with a hive queen’s royal jelly and given to her. This transfersthe immunity-boosting properties to her larvae, fortifying the entire hive against the disease. The vaccine is all-natural and can be safely used in the production of organic foods.
The US has granted a conditional license for a honeybee vaccine that combats an infectious disease that can devastate entire hives. The queen bee will ingest the vaccine, granting offspring immunity.https://t.co/ge0UlskGMR

“This is a significant advancement for beekeepers because we currently depend on antibiotic treatments that are somewhat effective but labor-intensive to administer to our hives,” stated Tauzer Apiaries, a member of the California State Beekeepers Association, in a press release from Dalan. “By preventing infections in our hives, we can evade costly treatments and concentrate our efforts on other crucial aspects of maintaining our bees’ health.”
