The US Government has taken legal action against a Georgia man for dumping pennies in his ex-employee’s driveway. Andreas Flaten left his job at A OK Walker Autoworks in January 2021 without receiving his final paycheck of $915. His former employer, Miles Walker, refused to pay him, leading Flaten to file a complaint with the US Department of Labor for wage theft. In response, Walker paid the money owed by dumping approximately 91,000 oily pennies on Flaten’s driveway in a petty gesture.
Walker’s action backfired as it caught the attention of the Department of Labor, triggering an investigation into his company. The inquiry has now escalated into a lawsuit by the Department of Labor, accusing Walker of withholding employee pay regularly and failing to pay overtime. He faces charges of failure to pay and illegal retaliation for the penny dumping incident.
After the penny debacle, Walker’s company received negative reviews, but Walker himself remained defiant online, dismissing criticism as “cancel culture” and making derogatory comments about Flaten. Flaten is grateful for the government’s support and is unfazed by Walker’s opinions. However, the oily pennies left a noticeable stain on his driveway.
