Warner wants to simplify the streaming platform’s name to ‘Max’.
In a series of restructuring moves throughout 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery has been downsizing, merging departments, and consolidating assets with the aim of integrating their streaming services Discovery+ and HBO Max into a single platform. Industry insiders have revealed that the latest development in this process involves a name change.
var pref_connatix_event_title_prefix = ‘ConnatixLarge’;var prefMainPlayer=pref_connatix_event_title_prefix;var pref_connatix_catapultx_id = ‘tdw-main-player’;
cnxps.cmd.push(function () {
cnxps({
playerId: getUrsCtxStoryPlayer() ,”customParam1″:getUrsPI(),”customParam2″:getUrsSTI(),”customParam3″:”ConnatixMain”,settings: {queryJsTargeting:{apsTargetingKey:getUrsTI().split(‘_’).slice(0,1).join(‘_’).toLowerCase()},advertising: {macros: {“CustomMacro1″:getUrsPI(),”CustomMacro2″:getUrsSTI(),”CustomMacro3″:”ConnatixMain”}}}
}).render(‘307852102563439fa7d193066a4208a5’,connatix_js_ready_callback);
});
Sources familiar with the situation have informed CNBC that Warner Bros. Discovery intends to combine all its streaming services under one platform – HBO Max. Considering that it will no longer exclusively feature HBO content, they are contemplating rebranding the platform simply as ‘Max.’ The company’s legal team is currently evaluating the name, which is among several potential options being considered by insiders.

Regardless of the final name chosen, Warner Discovery is aiming to launch the consolidated platform in Spring 2023. JB Perrette, President and CEO of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, stated last summer: “Bringing HBO Max and Discovery+ together was the most viable option to create a sustainable business. The merger intends to reduce customer turnover by offering content that appeals to every household member.”
