Microsoft’s highly anticipated operating system, Windows 11, was initially speculated to be released in December or November to coincide with the holiday season or the symbolic 11.11 date, respectively. However, Microsoft has opted to expedite the release process.
Microsoft officially announced that Windows 11 will be available for commercial release on October 5, 2021. Similar to the upgrade path from Windows 8 to Windows 10, the update to Windows 11 will be free for download for those interested. Additionally, new PCs will come preinstalled with Windows 11 instead of Windows 10. The rollout of the upgrade will occur in phases, starting with newer devices and gradually expanding to other devices in subsequent weeks and months.
“Building on the success of Windows 10, our goal is to deliver an exceptional user experience,” stated Aaron Woodman, general manager of Windows marketing at Microsoft, in the company’s official blog. “We anticipate offering the free Windows 11 upgrade to all eligible devices by mid-2022.”
Although the significance of 11.11 would have been ideal, we couldn’t wait any longer to introduce #Windows11. Available starting October 5th, learn more about it now.

Existing Windows 10 users will be able to utilize the Windows Update app to determine their computer’s compatibility with Windows 11 upon its release. Additionally, users can utilize the PC Health Check app for a more detailed assessment of their computer’s readiness. If you prefer to stick with Windows 10 for now (understandably so, given past update issues), Microsoft has committed to supporting Windows 10 until at least 2025.
