Word game Wordle has become incredibly popular recently as a simple five-letter guessing game that provides a fun way for friends and family to interact, even from a distance. It has served as a valuable tool for keeping in touch for individuals who are far apart, such as in the case of Denyse Holt, a resident of Illinois, and her daughter.
Denyse Holt, 80, regularly plays Wordle with her oldest daughter, Meredith Holt-Caldwell. When Holt-Caldwell didn’t receive her mother’s usual Wordle update and noticed unanswered texts on Monday, she sensed that something was amiss. Sadly, Holt had been attacked in her own home by a naked intruder who confined her to the basement for approximately 17 hours and disabled the house’s phones.

Upon not hearing from her mother, Holt-Caldwell alerted the authorities about the situation. The police promptly responded, apprehended the intruder, and safely rescued Holt, who was emotionally distressed but physically unharmed.
The intruder, identified as 32-year-old James H. Davis III, now faces charges of home invasion with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault against a peace officer, and aggravated kidnapping while armed with a dangerous weapon.
